Epigraph is a quote app, not a data business. This policy explains what the app stores, where that data lives, and the two cases in which anything leaves your device.
1. No accounts, no user database
Epigraph does not require an account, a sign-up, or an email address, and we run no servers of our own that collect or store personal data. There is one exception, described in the RevenueCat section below: to verify your subscription the app sends the purchase receipt issued by the store and a randomly generated anonymous identifier to RevenueCat. That is the only data that leaves your device without you asking for it, and it is what our App Store and Google Play privacy declarations cover as purchase and identifier data.
2. Everything stays on your device
All app data is stored locally, in Epigraph's private storage on your phone:
- Your name, if you choose to enter it and turn on being addressed by name. It personalizes the lines you see in the app, the lines in your reminder notifications, and the line on a home screen widget. For the widget and for notifications, the finished line with your name already in it is written into storage shared with the widget on the same device, so anyone who can see your home screen or your lock screen can read it. It is never sent anywhere.
- Favorites, reading history, and collections you create.
- Quotes you write yourself.
- Settings, reminder schedules, streaks, and daily goal progress.
- Photos and videos you pick as backgrounds. These are copied into the app's on-device storage and are never uploaded anywhere.
3. Backups you export
Settings, then Data backup, writes a single JSON file holding your name, favorites, reading history, collections, the quotes you wrote, your own Looks and your settings, and hands it to the system share sheet. Where that file goes is entirely your choice: Files, iCloud Drive, email, another app. The photos and videos you picked as backgrounds and your saved share cards are not part of it. We never see the file, and restoring one never changes your subscription status.
4. Device permissions
Photo library. Access is requested only when you choose a photo or video as a background, and the app touches only the items you pick.
Notifications. All reminders are local notifications, scheduled on your device, and shown only if you grant permission. Nothing is pushed from a server.
5. Purchases and RevenueCat
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by the store you bought them from, the Apple App Store or Google Play. Epigraph never sees your payment details.
To verify your subscription status, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription infrastructure service. RevenueCat receives the purchase receipt issued by the store and a randomly generated, anonymous user identifier. It does not receive your name, email address, or any other personal detail, because the app does not have them. You can read the RevenueCat Privacy Policy for details on how they handle this data.
6. No analytics, no ads, no tracking
Epigraph contains no third-party analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no tracking or fingerprinting of any kind. We do not know who you are, and we like it that way.
7. Deleting your data
Because all data lives on your device, deleting the app permanently deletes everything Epigraph has stored. You can also clear your reading history at any time from within the app.
8. Children
Epigraph is not directed at children under the age of 13. It has no accounts and asks for no email address. Everything you put into it, a name you may type in, favorites, reading history, collections, quotes you write, your own Looks, and photos or videos you pick as backgrounds, stays in the app's storage on your device. The one thing the app sends off the device on its own is the anonymous subscription information described in the RevenueCat section. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
10. Who is responsible, how long data is kept, and your rights
Controller. Epigraph is developed and published by Gokhan Gokova, an independent developer based in Turkiye. Every request described below goes to gokhan@gokhangokova.com.
Purpose and legal basis. Data kept on your device is processed only so the app can work: showing the quote of the day, keeping your favorites and collections, scheduling reminders. The subscription information, the only data that leaves the device, is processed so the service you bought can be provided, that is, for the conclusion and performance of a contract.
Retention. Data on your device is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app; there is no server copy of ours to expire. RevenueCat keeps the subscription record for as long as your subscription and its own retention policy require.
Transfers. RevenueCat processes subscription data on servers in the United States. Nothing else leaves your device on its own.
Your rights. Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of data relating to you, and object to its processing. For everything on your device you can do this yourself: clear your history in the app, or uninstall it. For the subscription record held by RevenueCat, write to us and we will pass the request on. Include the store purchase in question, because we hold no name or email that would let us identify you otherwise.
